CEC believes that access to and confidence on food is central in addressing poverty and empowerment. To address this CEC has done considerable work on village grain banks and soup kitchens on its own while assisting the government with innovations such as Rice Credit Line which serves 1.8 million households, Food Assurance wherein food for work was redesigned to provide assured monthly grain to worker families regardless of the number of days employed and is currently working to make labour bankable in NREGS and to divert household incomes first to food and nutrition security followed by education and health.

food securityCEC brings in a unique perspective to food issues and based on three factors

  1. food consumption cannot be postponed
  2. no one can over eat
  3. household meager budget must centre stage investing on food.
